Rincon de Guayabitos
Rincon de Guayabitos is a sleepy little town located approximately 40 miles north of Puerta Vallarta and three hours from Guadalajara. This is a well-kept community where two streets run parallel to the beach and are lined with cafés, restaurants with live entertainment, gift shops and modest bungalows. Several paths lead from the main street down to the beach. You will usually find vendors on the beach serving pineapple and coconut drinks, and “fish on a stick” from outdoor grills covered with tarps. The wide, two-mile long, sandy beach offers jet skiing, wind surfing, snorkeling, kayaking, and fishing, and boat rides and lunch trips to the offshore island can be found at the south end of the beach. The north end is much less crowded and is lined with luxurious hotels and oceanfront mansions. Local buses are available that will take you on a ten minute drive to the neighboring town of La Penita, where quite a selection of items can be found at the local public market. Also, every year in February the town of Rincon de Guayabitos celebrates the Tournament of Sport Fishing of the SailFish. In general, Rincon is a nice place to relax and work on a tan or read a good book. If you desire more action, Puerto Vallarta is a short drive down the Bay.
